A few weeks ago, we took the side off of Tess's crib. The side rail that comes with the bed is pretty small, and we lost the hardware for it, so we've been experimenting with just leaving the side of the bed open. She rolls out of bed frequently, so we put some pillows down to cushion the falls. Usually she sleeps right through falling out of bed.
A few days ago, I woke up at 4:45 am to Tess's screams. Her cries were desperate and urgent, and as I ran to her room, I wondered what on earth could inspire such terror. A nightmare? As I stumbled into the dark room, I quickly realized that Tess wasn't in her bed or on the floor beside her bed. I followed the voice down to the floor, when I realized she was UNDER the bed. She had somehow rolled all the way under her crib, and now couldn't get out. I felt for her, and then had to lift the crib up with one hand as I pulled her out with the other. The poor thing was really in a tight spot.
I don't know how she got her head under the bed in the first place. I don't know how she did all that moving and stayed asleep. But it has us wondering about a railing.
