So this week has been a bit of a reality check. November 1st was cold, and it has stayed cold. Plus it's getting darker, the leaves are almost gone, we spent almost the whole week inside, and Tess has a bit of a cold or something. I've had neck and hip pain and also been feeling tired and run down. So here's what we've been doing to get by.
Tea Parties with Monkey and Doggy:
And more Shaun the Sheep:
And long naps.
Friday I had my birthday and Eric and I enjoyed a long-overdue date.
Eric leaves on Friday for a week-long business trip to Thailand. When he returns, his cousins from Germany will arrive, and we will host 18 people for Thanksgiving. So it's a busy month. Paul came over last night and helped us put together our new dining room table that will allow us to seat the crowd.
And that's how our November has begun.

I liked this post a lot.
When did Tess start pretending? I've missed all you gals. I mean, where did the monkey come from?
Thailand! That sounds fabulous (and not cold).
Do you like winter? I'm a big fan of winter/snow/cold. And long naps. ;)
Happy Birthday, Kirsten!
Anne, I'm so glad you're commenting here. Having you back makes me miss you all the more!
Monkey was a gift she received in April. It was the first stuffed toy that she attached to. For a long time, she wanted him for sleeping, and would drag him around on many outing. But the pretend play with Monkey has really blossomed in the last 4-6 weeks. She now talks to Monkey, wants him to do things that she can (or isn't allowed) to do. (When we take the subway and she has to sit, we make Monkey climb all over and get in trouble. This delights her to no end.)
I'm floored by the pretend play. It's taken off in all kinds of little ways lately, and I love it. She likes little doll and animal replicas and fake food and such. And she'll get really upset when she wants something in a book. She can't understand why the picture won't just come to life! She'll come to me crying, grabbing at some picture, wanting me to get it for her.
Thailand will be such a shock for Eric's system. 12 hour time difference, totally different weather, and he will spend almost as much time traveling as he'll spend in the country. But all that aside, I think he's excited to see the country. The work part is a little stressful, but the higher powers are begging him to come, so that seems like a good position to be in. :) Well, maybe a more stressful position.
Winter has grown on me over time, as I've learned to settle into the routine of the seasons and bought warmer and warmer clothes. But the darkness is hard for me, and the lower energy is hard. November is always a hard month. November and March. The transition months can be harder than the actual winter for me. Though I also am one to take advantage of excuses to nap. :)
That picture of Eric and Tess watching TV is so precious. And they both are adorable! Good-looking baby, good-looking husband. :)
