Tess is just now able to put all the rings on this toy. At first she would pick them up, carefully place them next to the stick, and feel completely satisfied that she was doing it correctly. At some point she figured out that putting the rings on the pole was the goal, but she could only manage it if we guided her hands. Now she'll go to the toy on her own and slide the rings into place. However, it's still a challenge for her, and if she's holding a ring in a bad position, she has a hard time figuring out how to rotate it. When this happens, she looks up at me and screams while making the funniest face. Sometimes I help her out of the bind. Sometimes I let her figure it out herself.
She will also take the blocks from another shape sorting toy she has and try to slide them onto the pole. I find it really interesting to watch what she has and hasn't figured out about basic shapes and their properties.

Does she put them on in order, from biggest to littlest, like in the picture?
No, she doesn't even know it's an objective.
